Beyond bullying: new DVD models self-confidence skills for
children with autism spectrum disorders
Bullying is often an issue for children with Autism and Asperger
Syndrome. Building confidence in these children not only helps
prevent bullying, it also instills in them the courage to
make good decisions that will last a lifetime. Model Me Kids®,
LLC, the producer of the popular Model Me Kids® educational
video series, has just introduced a new DVD package to help
children 9 to 17 years of age learn skills for building self-esteem.
Model Me Confidence™ shows children acting out an appropriate
behavior in a real-world situation. Skills covered include:
Self-Advocacy, Peer Pressure, Choosing Friends, Building Strengths,
Visualization, Positive Self-Talk, Scripting, Stay With Others,
Telling Isn't Tattling, and Walk Tall. The producers of Model
Me Kids® also realized that building self-confidence in children
with autism spectrum disorders is a team effort, which is
why the DVD package includes a bonus video for parents and
educators. The video features Asperger’s guru Nick Dubin.
Mr. Dubin, an adult with Asperger Syndrome, talks about ideas
for preventing bullying. He is joined by school psychologist
Erica Edelman, Ph.D. who shares bullying prevention tips for
educators supporting children with Autism and Asperger Syndrome.
