Model Me Conversation Cues® Teaching Manual & Student Workbook -
New Books Complete Video Modeling Teaching Program to Help Teach Social Skills to Children with Autism

Children with Autism face significant challenges in reading social cues. A child with Autism might talk about a favorite interest, not reading the cues that his audience is bored by the topic. This can interfere in the child's ability to engage successfully with peers. Video modeling has been found to be an effective teaching tool to help Autistic children acquire appropriate social skills. (Bellini, S. & Akullian, J. (2007), A meta-analysis of video modeling and video self-modeling interventions for children and adolescents with ASD. Council for Exceptional Children).

Model Me Kids® has released a teaching manual and student workbook to create a complete video modeling teaching package. The books supplement the Model Me Conversation Cues DVD®, a video that uses real children to model appropriate social skills including: when to start a conversation, maintaining a conversation, reading cues for interested, not interested, bored, confused, and more. The manual and workbook may be used by parents of children with Autism and Asperger Syndrome to extend the skills from the DVD. Teachers and therapists may use the materials to create a social skills curriculum.

The Model Me Conversation Cues® program was previewed by a Special Education Teacher in Texas. "I use the Model Me Conversation Cues DVD, Teaching Manual, and Student Workbooks in a high school social skills class with 7 high functioning students with Asperger's. The video clips are a helpful visual tool because they model key social behaviors in short clips and in real situations. The lesson plans are wonderful. They provide a clear guideline, with discussion points that provide extra reinforcement needed for the students to practice modeling the rules they learned in the lesson. I use the questions as journal prompts to review what was taught the previous day and how they can apply those rules in their daily experiences. My students enjoy the activities in the workbook because they are visual, concrete and fun. I have found the hands-on practice activities stimulating and engaging for them. My students are learning without even knowing it! I have seen my students initiate conversation and use the rules that they have learned in their general education classes with their peers. I would recommend this as a valuable tool for anyone working with students with Autism." - Candice Clark, Special Education Teacher, McKinney, Texas
